Beyond One

It's finally here, the day we've long awaited: our little boy is ONE year old!  The journey has not always been easy, but it has been worth every moment, and now it's time to celebrate.  Happy Birthday Isaac!

One Year Old (8 months adjusted)

Doozer and his Doozer

The day started similar to any other day.  Isaac woke up, rolled around his crib, cooing and playing with his toes, but then he found a special surprise: Daddy had taken the day off of work, just for him!  The fun and adventures began with with a walk to the park, where Daddy took him down the slide and Mommy held him on the swing.  From there, we strolled to the river to watch the fish jump and the birds swooping and diving, then back home for presents and play time galore.

 First Trip to the Park

After lunch, it was time for cake. We stripped Isaac to his diaper, placed him in his high chair, and gave him his very own smash cake to enjoy.  He was tentative at first, but once he got going, he enjoyed squishing the frosting in his hands, licking it off his fingers, and smearing the rest wherever he could reach.

And That's How It's Done!

Following the birthday cake adventure was bath time, then the exhausted birthday boy settled down for a nap while Mommy & Daddy scrubbed the kitchen.  The evening was filled with more play time, family photos, and winding down with an episode of Little Einsteins before he fell asleep in Daddy's arms.

 Our Happy Family

I'm a monkey, Daddy! Ah ah, ee ee!

It's amazing to realize how quickly this first year has gone by.  Isaac has grown from 1 lb, 7 oz and 12 inches long, to an incredible16 lb, 10 oz, and nearly 27 inches.  He is rolling, jumping, squealing, and constantly on the go, easy going, and friends with everyone he meets.  Today we celebrate his life, survival, his strength, his smile, his laughter, his joy, and everything he has brought into our lives. Isaac, we are honored to be your parents; you are a true miracle and a blessing in our lives every day. Happy Birthday! Here's to another AMAZING year!

More of March

Other highlights this month include Isaac going to Hatching Tales story time at the turtle sanctuary and learning about Bixby the turtle, starting occupational therapy, and picking out his very own toy at Toys R Us.

See My Toy!

His occupational therapist informed us that he's very strong for his age, progressing toward early walking, and his areas to work on (sitting up, crawling, and balance) are very typical for preemies, all of which are very reassuring. Isaac is quick to learn shortcuts around the exercises, such as picking up a toy with his feet instead of reaching for it with his hands, and had his OT laughing throughout the session.

He's also becoming more vocal, saying "aww" when he eats, laughing big belly laughs when playing with Daddy, shrieking, squealing, and learning a full range of sounds.

Easter Sunday wrapped up the month with two more surprises.  First, Isaac officially began sleeping through the night.  His sleep schedule has been progressively lengthening, but now he's waking up when Aaron gets up, between 6-7:00am, instead of 4-5:00am like he had been previously, so everybody is starting to get more rest in the house. Even more exciting, he started to belly crawl!  During morning play time on the floor, he began using his right leg and both arms to pull himself forward toward a toy a couple feet away.  The left leg hasn't caught on yet, but it's only a matter of time before he's fully mobile, and then we're pretty sure he'll never slow down!  Look out world, here comes Isaac!

Gotcha!
