I know November is generally considered the month for thankfulness, but this year, thankful doesn't even begin to express the joy in our lives. Aaron started his new job, our family relocated to Jupiter, Florida, and we're thrilled to be close tot he beach once again. We started the month by exploring the area a bit, taking Isaac to the park by the jetty to see the boats and enjoy some sun.
First Visit to the Ocean
Now that he no longer needs an apnea monitor, we decided to transition him to his full-sized crib down the hall in the nursery. It took Mommy some getting used to, but she only went to check his breathing five or six times the first night. Isaac slept peacefully, and greeted her in the morning with big smiles, ready to play. Within two or three days, he was completely acclimated, and life began to settle into its new routine.
First Night in the Nursery
He is definitely starting to show signs of teething. Some of his new hobbies include chewing on, well, everything, especially Mommy's and Daddy's fingers, blankets, toys, and his own hands. The drool factor has also increased dramatically, often requiring two or three outfit changes in a day
Daddy's Fingers are Fun to Chew
We celebrated eight months of life this month, as well as some major growth milestones. Isaac officially reached 24 inches in height this month - double his birth length! When the nurse at the pediatrician's office told me, I teared up from joy. He has come so far in such a short time; our hearts swell with pride for our little boy.
Eight Months (4 months adjusted)
G'day Ma'am
World's Best Smile
He has just barely grown into size 3-6 month clothes, as well as his first pair of baby shoes! Mommy gets very excited about his new wardrobe as he grows, but with a twinge of nostalgia over how tiny he used to be. Mostly though, it's exciting to see him grow bigger and stronger every day, as he begins to fill out and develop a bit of baby chub.
Wearing Uncle Scott's Shoes (from 1977)
Isaac is progressing nicely through all of the Stage One Gerber foods, and while he's still a pretty messy eater, he enjoys every bite, and we enjoy taking turns feeding him. He hasn't refused a new food yet, and neither have his clothes.
I Have Food on my Face? Where?
Despite moving to southern Florida, cold fronts still occasionally pass through the area. Thankfully, we have a handful of warm hoodies, fleece pants, and snuggly sleepers to keep him warm during the winter months.
Staying Toasty
Mid-month, he had an appointment with his ophthalmologist in Jacksonville. Aaron had to work, so Cindy and Isaac traveled three hours to Nana and Poppa's house in The Villages, spent the night, traveled five hours round trip with Nana to and from Jax the following day, then the three hour drive back home on day three. Unfortunately, the drive did not go as smoothly as anticipated. We learned that our normally easy-going baby does not like car rides. At all. He did fine on the middle day, when Nana drove and I sat in the back seat to entertain him, but when he's alone in the back seat, he screams...a lot...most of the trip actually. Next month, we're scheduled to go back, so Aaron plans to take a day off of work to take turns driving and providing entertainment, in hopes that the trip will be a much smoother ordeal for everyone.
I was thrilled to get to see his nicu nurse Rachel for a quick lunch while we were in Jax, and Isaac soaked up the smiles and snuggles. It was a dark and chilly day outside, but she added some fun and smiles, brightening our afternoon.
Lunch With Miss Rachel
The 19th was a day for dancing. Isaac decided to break loose and boogie for the first time. While I was holding him and singing, he swayed back and forth and alternated lifting each foot, bobbing his head and smiling his big gummy smile. Play time just became more fun than ever!
Hanging Out
Isaac is still full of surprises, from pushing up on his elbows to say hi (which he used to hate), so making his mother panic when he's trying to swallow his fist. His sense of humor is starting to develop as well, and he knows when he's being funny and already learning to test his limits. This boy is going to keep us running!
Look What I Can Do!
The month ended with a visit to Lake Placid, Florida the weekend of Thanksgiving. Isaac got to meet his Great Grandparents, snuggle, smile, drool, and dance for them. Besides getting lost taking a detour on our trip home and driving through farmlands for an hour, the visit went off without a hitch, and we hope to return for another visit early next year.
Meeting Great Grandma Nita
and
Great Grandpa Vern
I know it's been a good day when I'm getting a
sleepy baby ready for bed and realize I have drool stains all down my
sleeve and rice cereal crusted to my arm. Yes indeed, we have much to be thankful for.
